JSON diff that ignores key order and formatting
Reformatting a JSON file or writing its keys in another order doesn't change what it says. Kotej parses both files and compares the values, so you see only the changes that matter.
Free, no account, and nothing is uploaded: everything is compared in your browser.
What it does
- Key order ignoredObjects are compared key by key, whatever order they were written in.
- Formatting ignoredMinified, pretty-printed or indented differently: if the values are the same, the files are equivalent.
- Strict where it mattersArray order is significant, and types are not coerced: true is not 1 and "8080" is not 8080.
- JSON Lines detected as logsA file with one JSON object per line is a log, and Kotej compares it as one, field by field.
How to use it
- Open Kotej and pick the two JSON files, or drop them on each side.
- Kotej says whether they are identical, equivalent or different.
- Open the file to see the changed lines side by side, unified, or word by word.
Questions
Does key order matter?
No. Two objects with the same keys and values are equal in any order.
Does array order matter?
Yes. In JSON an array is an ordered list, so [1, 2] and [2, 1] are different.
Can I compare API responses or config files across environments?
Yes. Save both responses or both configs and compare them; for whole sets of files, compare two folders and every JSON file in them is compared the same way.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Kotej runs entirely in your browser: files are read on your device and compared there. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why it works on confidential configuration, customer data and production logs.
Is it free?
Yes, free and with no account. There is also a native macOS app with the same engine, for comparing folders straight from Finder: Kotej on the Mac App Store.
